Breastfeeding Buddy System

gingerpixel_photography__newborn_photography_1_15966A Breastfeeding Buddy is mum in your local area who has breastfed her own child and who has attended breastfeeding information training. She is not a health professional but she will be able to provide you with peer support and encouragement. She will provide you with literature/information on breastfeeding and sources of other help available in your area should you need it. Your Breastfeeding Buddy will encourage and support you through the early days of breastfeeding your baby. Your Breastfeeding Buddy is also available to you to accompany you to a local group or to go out for a coffee to nurse in public for the first time.

The Buddy System is currently available to mothers living in Dublin and Cork, with plans to roll it out across the country.

If you are a new breastfeeding mum, or an expectant mum wishing to breastfeed, and live within our catchment areas, why not register online.

If your area isn’t covered by the Buddy System, why not check our “Support” section to see if there is a group of breastfeeding mums meeting near you?

OK2What does Breastfeeding Look Like?

If you grew up in Ireland and don’t come from a breastfeeding background yourself, there’s a good chance that you’ve never seen a baby being nursed. Well, now’s your chance! Using donated images as well as pics taken at events hosted by Friends of Breastfeeding, We have compiled a collection of photos to show what nursing really looks like. If you are interested in submitting your own photos, please send them to
