BreastFeed_3As well as being a great source of information, the internet can also be a great place for finding breastfeeding support.   Here are just a few of the many online Irish support options available to you:  Did you really think we wouldn’t be on this list?  Your number one go to spot for all things breastfeeding in Ireland and a great place to keep up to date on everything that’s happening at Friends of Breastfeeding.  Find out what types of support are available in your area, read stories of other mother’s breastfeeding journeys and check out our upcoming events, ongoing projects and how you can get involved! The popular Irish parenting site offers great support to parents in all areas of parenting, from those just starting out to those for whom nappies and night feeds are a distant memory.  Their Breastfeeding discussion board in particular is one of the finest of it’s kind in Ireland and is a great place to find mother to mother support for all your breastfeeding queries and to chat with mothers at all stages of the breastfeeding journey.

Cuidiu:  Cuidiú is a voluntary parent-to-parent support group which through ‘information, education and support’ encourages a confident, positive approach to parenting.  Cuidiú have a special interest in support parents to breastfeed, both at a parent to parent level, but also by providing evidenced based information through their breastfeeding counsellors. Cuidiú breastfeeding counsellors complete a two year course covering a variety of breastfeeding topics over 20 modules. Training includes counselling and listening skills and breastfeeding information elements, based on the latest scientific research. Participants have a lengthy required reading list and practical elements to their training, ensuring they are well-informed and well-prepared to support mothers and provide accurate breastfeeding information and options. Breastfeeding counsellors offer their services voluntarily and are available to answer your queries over the phone and may also be able to call to you if you wish. Most branches have community support groups for all parents regardless of feeding choice.

La Leche League Ireland: The aim of La Leche League Ireland is to help mothers in Ireland to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother

Facebook:  Despite objections to it’s policies regarding photos of breastfeeding, Facebook has become a mecca of online support for breastfeeding mothers with more groups sprouting up every day.  The following are just a few “Groups” you may be interested in checking out:

Friends of Breastfeeding:  Yup, we’re everywhere!  And with close to 2000 likes on our facebook page, it’s a great place to share information and to keep up to date on all of the happenings as they, well, as they happen!

La Leche League Dodder Valley A page set up by the members of La Leche League Dodder Valley.  New members always welcome!

Extended Breastfeeding in Ireland:  In a country where less then half of all babies will ever even taste breast milk, this is a group of over 1000 mothers across Ireland who find themselves or hope to find themselves “Still” breastfeeding past the point they initially imagined.

Feeding Two Babies Rocks!  : For Mothers who are nursing while pregnant or feeding two or more babies, this is a great place to chat about the ups and downs of tandem nursing.

Breastfeeding with Tongue Tie in Ireland: A  mother to mother group specifically set up to address the needs of mothers in Ireland who are breastfeeding babies with tongue tie.

Breastfeeding Mums Ireland: Dedicated to breastfeeding mothers in Ireland sharing information and experiences (with the occasional giveaway and celebrity breastfeeder for fun!) another great place to chat with other nursing mums!
