Friends Of Breastfeeding Mother to Mother Support is the gathering together of mothers to share experiences and information about breastfeeding and motherhood in an amazing atmosphere of trust and support. Here mothers are supported to the have breastfeeding journeys of their choice. Our groups offer incredible support to the mothers attending. Meetings may not always have a trained counselor present as their focus is on the power of peer to peer support. Meeting supportive like minded parents, and making new friends is can be an incredibly important part of new parenthood and makes a difference to so many breastfeeding journeys.

La Leche League is a voluntary organization which provides information and support to women who want to breastfeed their babies. All Group Leaders are volunteer mothers who have nursed their babies for at least a year. They have completed an accreditation program and are familiar with breastfeeding techniques as well as current research. They are available free of charge at any time to speak with a mother in person oron the telephone. Meetings are held monthly and are open to all breastfeeding mothers and mothers to be.

Cuidiú is a voluntary organisation which provides education and support for parenthood. Their aim is to provide information to parents, enabling them to make informed choices about pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. It also aims to empower parents to implement their choices and decisions. They further aim to provide support to all parents around pregnancy, birth, feeding methods and other postnatal issues.

The Association of Lactation Consultants in Ireland (ALCI) The purpose of the Association is to promote the professional development, advancement and recognition of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) for the benefit of breastfeeding infants and children, mothers, families and the wider community.

HSE Midwives and Public Health Nurses undergo 20 hours of breastfeeding education as part of their undergraduate training. When the HSE runs these courses, they also offer places to GP’s and other health professional groups. HSE breastfeeding support groups are mostly run by public health nurses. They offer basic advice and support and are a good way of meeting breastfeeding mothers in your area.
